chamber music smallAGGS is known for our high quality biennial school productions - Students are actively involved in all aspects of the school production - including all acting parts, they are the musicians in the band, involved in backstage, lighting, creating costumes, wardrobe, stage makeup and front of house duties. Past successful productions include Grease, The Wiz, the Sound of Music and Return to the Forbidden Planet.

Students have access to learning a wide range of musical instruments through our school music itinerant scheme. Students can receive tuition on a range of instruments including piano, bass guitar, guitar, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums. Lessons are usually in small groups and are based on a revolving timetable. Students have access to private piano lessons that are held at school.

Cultural Activities

Our cultural and sporting successes are the result of a dynamic mix of talented and enthusiastic students and dedicated staff, who value and are committed to the wider life of the school.

Our students are involved in the wider community through:

  • Service committee - which raises funds for organisations such as Auckland City Mission, Canteen and the Heart Foundation; Trees for Survival - where students plant seedlings they have raised as part of a conservation programme.

ASB Polyfest

For many of our students, the ASB Polyfest, is the highlight of the first term each year.
From the beginning of February through to mid-March, during lunch times and after school, the school resounds to the beat of drums, singing, music and dancing, as our seven cultural groups, Fijian, Chinese, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Islands, Niuean, Indian, Iti Kahurangi and Kahurangi Ki Maungawhau Kapa Haka, spend hours rehearsing and fine tuning their performances for the festival. Each year our groups represent the school and their cultures with great dignity and pride and over the years have been very successful often being placed in the top three groups.
